Sundee did just that today. She loves her hair. It is her crown. Something that makes her unique and special. Today she went for a haircut. We had briefly talked about donating her hair and when we went in we asked the hairdresser where it would sit once it was cut. Sundee was wanting to take some length off and was thinking if it was shoulder length that would be perfect. We were told that once cut it would be a little shorter. You see in order to donate your hair to Locks of Love you need to cut a minimum of 10 inches. She agreed and the cutting began. As the story goes and the photos will show it was a little shorter than we imagined. I was watching Sundee's brave face and could see the mixture of emotion. After the 1st side was done she turned to me and mouthed, "I want my hair back." I almost started to cry because I was thinking the same thing. The thing is her hair is beautiful but it is also ALOT of work. I've been going back and forth wondering if we really should cut it or not. But sitting there thinking of what she was doing and the child that will benefit from this donation made me smile. Sundee is well and healthy. Her hair will grow back. Her donation will make someone very happy and they will have Sundee's gorgeous hair. How lucky are they!!
After it was all done I really started to like it and so did she. Now she can start combing it herself in the bath. Also there are a whole lot of styles I've been wanting to try and the shorter length will make it a little less time consuming.
So three cheers to Sundee and her new look.
I didn't take a real before picture but here is a photo that kind of shows the length. It's in rope twists and if you would stretch her hair out it goes about halfway down her back. We stretched out her hair in the front and it was approximately 20 inches long!
And here are her after shots.
These are her precious locks.
They look really short but if you stretch them
out they are 10-12 inches long.
